Mere generations ago, women walked slowly but surely with bulging bellies into the woods to give birth- secluded and in complete privacy as they felt called to their births unfolding. Many women gathered in tents and teepees to birth tended to by those closest to them throughout their labor. While women used to walk into the woods- not everyone walked out. As a doula I value the balance of modern medicine and ancient wisdom in the birth space- intertwined supporting one another as times have changed. There is no doubt that pregnancy and birth are deeply imprinting experiences where a woman will attune herself to her instincts in a profound way likely unlike ever before in her life.
I’m Kelsey and I have been attending births for nearly half a decade now. I have seen births unfold with women nearly untouched throughout their whole experience having locked herself in her bathroom for hours- refusing to even tell her husband she was contracting to remain hidden to having attended a consensual scheduled cesareans that was JOYFUL for the mother. Take note the sheer spectrum of mindset and energetic space these mothers were in throughout their birth experience. I stand side by side honoring their wishes and vision- however birth unfolds.
I formerly worked as a Sexual Health Educator in a clinical setting helping others process their sex lives and best help them incorporate safe sexual practices and to access testing. My senior thesis project in college at Humboldt State was introducing the Wellness Vending Machines on campus where community members and students can now access condoms and Plan B 24/7 at a fraction of the cost. I was sponsored by Trojan Condoms as Student of The Year for distributing 1,000 condoms throughout the dorms in 2015-2016. I then worked for Planned Parenthoods lobbyist as an Advocacy Strategist in response to an abortion ban or “heartbeat bill”. Having sat with hundreds upon hundreds of people discussing the intimate details of their sex lives and for some that led them to the decision of an abortion- made me keenly aware of how often unspoken these details of our lives often are.
As a doula it is a joy to walk alongside mothers and couples in their journey to motherhood. I value informed consent, and safe mother-centered birth spaces. Women and couples, you know can be 80+ years old sitting in their rocking chairs and recall intimate details of their births. It is my greatest honor and highest calling to hold space for women throughout pregnancy and birth to attune to their baby’s soul and spirit coming earthside.

Do you take medi-cal/ Partnership?
Yes. I am a Medi-Cal Partnership doula. I also accept 17 other insurances you can view on the insurance tab of my website. If you are not entitled doula benefits through your insurance, I offer a sliding scale. When an insurance or private pay care package is established with a set number of visits, we outline those visits with learning outcomes to equip you feeling prepared and at ease for what lies ahead.
what if i want pain management options?
Great- lets discuss your options for pain management and find what sounds best for you and your birthing experience. From water, TENS Units, nitrous oxide, IV pain management to epidural I support you and stand by you.
What kind of births have you attended?
I have attended an array of births ranging from unmedicated to cesareans and everything in between. First time moms, third time moms, VBACs, advanced maternal age moms, IVF babies and more.
Do you replace my partner?
No. I do not replace partners or spouses. I am not only your undivided support person- I also work to help support and guide your partner on how to best support you in birthing positions and more. I have supported single mothers, women who are survivors of domestic violence at the hands of their child’s father and women with emotionally absent partners and can navigate that accordingly as well.
have you supported unmedicated births?
Yes, I have supported unmedicated births and am familiar with a wide range of coping mechanisms whether medicated or unmedicated.
what exactly do doulas do?
I am undivided support in the birth space- side by side working to bring comfort and ease to birthing women. Unlike nurses who have endless charting, pop in and out and providers who oversee medical care and check in maybe every 6 hours- I am there throughout for the entirety. I work one on one with my clients to ensure they have evidence-based research, community resource referrals, a solid birth plan, in person labor support and in-home postpartum care ranging from breastfeeding support to meal preparation and more.

Upon hiring we book in-home prenatal visits. These are an intimate time to provide prenatal education, create a custom birth plan, be provided evidence-based research and resources while trusting and tuning into the innate conscious connection between body and baby. These are typically about 2 hours. *This is included in packaged care and not to be paid for separately.
Unlimited in person birth support throughout labor. On call to arrive at your side during labor whether it is 2am or 2pm. Support is provided as needed to see your birth plan come to life. I work to support the facilitation of informed consent throughout the birth process. Labor support whether labor is 12 hours of 26 hours. A backup doula is provided in case of extended labor 36+ hours). *This is included in packaged care and not to be paid for separately unless in a prior discussed circumstance with Kelsey.
In-home postpartum care custom tailored to you and your family’s needs. This is typically a culmination of; birth processing, peer to peer breastfeeding support, community resource referrals, meal preparation, and light housekeeping. These visits can range from 1.5 hours to extended 3 hour visits. *This is included in packaged care and not to be paid for separately unless in a prior discussed circumstance with Kelsey.
